March through May on Walter Bouldin Lake is a bank-to-bank bite as water temps climb from the upper 50s into the 70s. Pre-spawn largemouth stage on secondary creek-mouth points off the Bouldin pool and on the riprap down the Jordan-Bouldin canal — a squarebill crankbait and a slow-rolled chatterbait cover the water. When the surface hits the low 60s, crappie push up the creek arms onto shallow brush — minnows and 1/16-ounce jigs on every brush pile you can electronically map. The spawn runs the first warm week of April in the backs of the quiet pockets: wacky Senkos on visible beds, chatterbaits on the flat for cruisers. December through February on Bouldin is a two-track deep-water game. Surface temps drop into the 40s, shad stack in the dam tailraces and on the main Coosa channel, and the heaviest spotted bass of the year hold on rock transitions 25 to 40 feet deep — a football jig and a drop-shot fluorocarbon rig on the bluff transitions is the money pattern. Largemouth slide into quiet-water wood cover in the creek arms off the Bouldin pool — a slow-rolled spinnerbait and a jig-and-craw on the first warm afternoon of a cold front get bit. The Bouldin Dam tailrace concentrates the densest shad and the heaviest winter stripers — a heavy spoon or blade bait vertically jigged on the dam face cleans the oxygenated water below generation. Crappie school up on deep brush in 15 to 25 feet and hit minnows and tube jigs.
