Who we are
Alabama Fishing Atlas is an editorial fishing directory built by a team with 20-plus years of time on Alabama water — Guntersville, the Coosa Chain, Tombigbee, Mobile Bay, and the Gulf Coast from Perdido Pass to Dauphin Island. We built it because we got tired of state .gov dumps with six-year-old data, generic fishing sites with no local knowledge, and directories where half the bait shops have been closed for three years.
The Atlas team is the “Atlas Editorial” byline you see on lake and species pages. We fish. We source. We write. No article goes live that couldn't pass the test: would a Bassmaster Magazine staff writer be comfortable publishing this?
Our methodology
Every factual claim — acreage, depth, state record, regulation, tournament result — is sourced to a primary government or institutional source and linked inline. We do not publish numbers we can't verify.
Regulations come from ADCNR and are updated annually at minimum. Water data flows from USGS gauge stations and NOAA on a live schedule. Tournament data is sourced from official results pages — Bassmaster, Alabama Bass Trail, BASS Nation Alabama, and ADCNR. Fisheries research is cited from Auburn University publications and TVA reservoir studies.
Bait shop and guide listings are verified weekly by automated phone and URL validators. No paid placements in directory listings, ever.

- Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) — regulations, license requirements, stocking records, public ramp listings
- USGS Water Data — live gauge readings for pool level, flow rate, temperature
- Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) — reservoir data, dam operations, fish attractor GPS coordinates
- NOAA — weather, barometric pressure, solunar data
- Auburn University Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station — Fisheries Research — creel surveys, population studies, invasive species monitoring
- Bassmaster — tournament archives, weigh-in interviews, Classic history
- Alabama Bass Federation (ALBFA) — local tournament results, club data
Update schedule
- USGS gauge data: every 4 hours
- NOAA weather: every 6 hours
- Bite Score computation: daily at 4 AM Central
- Tournament results: weekly
- Bait shop and guide link/phone validation: weekly
- Annual regulation review: each January after ADCNR publishes new regs
