Reed Montgomery is one of the longest-tenured fishing guides working Alabama water. He has run Reeds Guide Service out of Birmingham for more than four decades, written weekly and monthly fishing reports for his site Fishing Alabama since the early 2000s, and hosted the 'Fishing Alabama with Reed Montgomery' radio show beginning January 2005. On Demopolis Lake his playbook is old-school river fishing: pitch the backwater weeds at dawn, crank the stump rows on the river ledge, walk a Zara Super Spook around cypress knees at first and last light, and flip big jigs into laydowns when the bite turns for a kicker bass. He fishes the Tombigbee arm's Foscue Creek, Logjam Slough and Culpepper Slough on the main river; on the Black Warrior arm he works French Creek, Powerline Slough and Backbone Creek.
